Did They “Jump The Shark” On The Season Finale of “House”?
After all these years of electric sexual tension between House and Cuddy on “House” she finally came out and said it last night’s terrific season finale. The “L” word. Yep, she said it: she loves House and sealed it with a kiss. Will this be the moment in the series that signals the decline of the show – known as “jumping the shark” – the point at which the series is no longer as good as it used to be, because of a specific event that occurs to characters in the show. Watch it here and then on the next page, see some of the great shows that changed after they jumped the shark.
History: The term “jumping the shark” comes from the 1977 episode of “Happy Days’ when the Fonz, in swim suit and leather jacket, while water skiing, literally jumped over a shark . From then on the series was never the same. Some classic examples of when the “jump” happened:
A baby enters the show on “Mad About You” & “Friends”
Martin Sheen replaced Michael J Fox on “Spin City”
Stars made a little whoopee on “Friends”, “Frasier”, “Moonlighting”
Stars died like Phil Hartman on “News Radio” or John Ritter on “8 Simple Rules”
A marriage happensed on “Lois & lark”, “Alias”, “The Nanny” & “Friends”.
