Chris Daughtry reportedly wrote Home while he was preparing to leave home to compete on American Idol. The lyrics of the song give the impression that he was just about ready to give up on the musicians life and start a new life among family and friends.

If he was entertaining any ideas of giving up, his outstanding performance on American Idol certainly reversed that, and he was quickly granted a recording contract which he used to record this song. It was the second single off his band’s debut album, and one of his highest-charting songs to date.
