Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus Are ‘Most Wanted’
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Taylor Swift[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Miley Cyrus[/lastfm] have become, literally, living works of art. The two are focused in Richard Phillips’ latest art exhibit.
Phillips selected ten of America’s most instantly recognizable celebrities from the realms of film, television, and music to create portraits of the young, powerful stars displaying their rehearsed, red-carpet expressions for his “Most Wanted” collection.
Featured at the White Cube in London, the collection showcases large scale oil paintings of the young celebrities.
The two-meter high canvases feature [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Taylor Swift[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Miley Cyrus[/lastfm] along with Chace Crawford, Kristen Stewart, Zac Efron, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Taylor Momsen[/lastfm], Dakota Fanning, Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake, and Robert Pattinson line the gallery walls.
Phillips has depicted all these famous faces against ‘step and repeat’ backdrops, similar to what you see on the red carpet and display a variety of luxury brand logos.
Dazed Digital asked Phillips why some of the artists were featured with a halo effect.
The halos are references to Richard Bernstein who illustrated the great covers for Interview magazine in the eighties. We then had lots of precedents to link with each of the personalities. So the all white halo of Leonardo di Caprio represents a certain type of classicism.
The exhibit is on display through March 5th and hopefully, will make an appearance in the United States.
Don’t forget to watch the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, April 3rd on CBS at 8 p.m. PT/ET. Taylor is nominated for 3 ACM awards: Entertainer of the Year, Top Female Vocalist, and Album of the Year.
