After having to cancel most dates during their 2010 Old Friends tour due to [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Art Garfunkel[/lastfm] being diagnosed with vocal cord paresis, the singer is slowly recovering enough to the point he’s ready to hit the road again.

Garfunkel says his voice is “slowly coming along” and is hinting at possibly picking up where he and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paul Simon[/lastfm] left off as early as late 2011.

Slowly but surely, the one half of the harmonious duo is regaining his voice through healing treatments like vocal exercises, steam, gargling and other treatments, including voice warm-up tapes sent to him by friends.

“I’m being challenged by the Lord to have patience, real patience,” Garfunkel says. “It’s coming along slowly, painfully, excruciatingly slow. I try to stay off the subject and not bemoan anything. But I’m never going to give up on my crusade to return to the stage…I swear to you we’ll do those dates.”

Garfunkel is eager to return to the stage with his musical counterpart and even predicts going on tour again starting this year.

“Give me a little more time. At the rate the voice is coming back, I should be in pretty good shape by, as the corporations say, the fourth quarter of 2011,” he says.

Although the outlook of a new [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Simon & Garfunkel[/lastfm] tour on the horizon is good, no dates have been booked yet, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a stop in Los Angeles!

In addition, Paul Simon is releasing a new solo album So Beautiful or So What on April 15th with a supporting tour to go along with it. He’s also been supportive of Garfunkel’s recovery by letting him take his time to heal and not pressing him too hard to start practicing again.
