As far as empowerment songs go, “Daylight” isn’t the deepest, but that’s OK.
The message behind the song is simple: Even though society would look in your “windows” and look down on you for doing something out of the ordinary (like have a party until dawn), sometimes you just have to do these sorts of things in order to stay true to yourself and “unwind.”
And it looks like daylight’s gonna get me up again/(Damn right and I’m lovin’ every minute)/Most people like getting up when I’m just getting in./(I’ll be back in three days like Paris’s jail sentence)And oh, it’s the only only time/It’s the only time when I can unwind.
