2008 Voodoo Experience - Day 3

It’s the end of the world as we know it… well, at least for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]R.E.M.[/lastfm] fans. After over 30 years together, the band has decided to call it quits. They announced their breakup on their website this week:

“To our fans and friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”

The original band, comprised of Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and (former drummer) Bill Berry, joined up in Athens, Georgia back in the early 1980s. They’ve released fifteen albums over the course of their careers, and were responsible for a number of hits including “The One I Love,” “Losing My Religion,” “Man on the Moon,” “It’s the End of the World As We Know It,” “Everybody Hurts,” “Stand” and many more.
