If you’re like me and grew up in St. Louis, you remember weekends (especially Friday nights) spent at the mall–and there were a lot of malls to choose from.

Before The Galleria and West County Center Part Deux, the massive Crestwood Plaza on Watson Road (or the “Ultra Mall) as it was known in its heyday from the mid 60’s through the early 90’s, was the mall of choice for just about everyone south of highway 40.

Who could forget the lunch counter at Woolworths, shopping for new Easter outfits at Sears, Friday night movies in the always freezing theater or the occasional foray into the strange and wonderful world of Orange Julius.  The Ultra Mall really did have it all!

Sadly though, with the advent of the big-box outdoor center (see Brentwood Promenade), the mall would hit hard times  and the major retailers like Famous Barr and Sears  abandoned ship.  Eventually it would evolve into a strange, empty cavernous maze of dark hallways, punctuated by the occasional local artist kiosk or seasoned citizen mall walker.   It seemed like a sad ending for what was once the center of our social universe as kids.

Now comes word that you can actually own a piece of what is now referred to as Crestwood Court.

According to a recent report, you can now bid, via public auction,  on the counter from the aforementioned movie theater, the Athens Cafe menu board sign and–yes, it’s a little creepy– assorted mannequins from some of the various clothing stores.

The bidding is happening through June 24th and it’s the third of five auctions related to…Crestwood Court.

Sorry, but to me, it will always be the “Ultra Mall.”
