With the 4th of July quickly approaching we celebrate the birth of our nation.

Since we were kids we have recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Every day as we started our school day, we rose from our desks, put our hands on our hearts and we said the Pledge of Allegiance. But what do the words really mean?

On January 14, 1969, Comedian Red Skelton, on his comedy show told a story of a teacher he had in school when Red was only 10 years old. The teacher thought the school children in his class were reciting the Pledge of Allegiance just from rote memory and not really understanding what the Pledge really means.

So Red reads the Pledge, as his teacher did so many years prior, defining every single word of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Here’s the video from that broadcast. Play it for your kids and happy Independence Day!
