Blessings In A Backpack
What is Blessings in A Backpack and why is it important? Blessings in a Backpack works to ensure impoverished local elementary school children are fed on the weekends throughout the school year. There are 20+ million children in this country who are at risk of hunger. The consequences of hunger are much more than a growling stomach. Poor nutrition can result in a weaker immune system, increased hospitalization, lower IQ, shorter attention spans, and lower academic achievement. Children are fed during the school week by federal government programs, but this program makes sure they’re getting nutritional meals over the weekend, too.
Nearly 59,000 children in 390 schools and in 35 states are currently being fed by Blessings In A Backpack. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance are the desired outcomes of this program.
Fresh 102.5 is working to ensure impoverished, local elementary school children are fed on the weekends throughout the school year, sponsored in part by JP Morgan and Logos School. To find out how you can help, click here.
