Lane Closures & Traffic Updates In The Metro East
Construction and lane closures continue this weekend, so plan ahead for your weekend travels.
Starting with the Illinois side…
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that westbound I-55/70 will be CLOSED from IL 203 to the I-55/70/64 split in East St. Louis beginning at 9:00 PM Friday, September 20th. All lanes are expected to reopen by 5:00 AM Monday, September 23rd, weather permitting. The purpose of this weekends closure is to resurface the existing lanes of westbound I-55/70.
All traffic should use the following marked detour of southbound I-255 to westbound I-64 to westbound I-55/70. No westbound traffic will be allowed west of IL 203. You can find more info at stl-traffic.org.
And now for the Missouri side…
There will be several lane closures on interstates in downtown St. Louis as well as Interstate 70 in St. Peters at the Mid Rivers Mall Drive project.
In downtown, construction on the New Mississippi River Bridge will have some lane closures starting Friday, September 20. Crews will be closing up to two right lanes on westbound I-70 from Biddle to Branch at 7 p.m. In addition the ramps from the Martin Luther King Bridge and Biddle will be closed at 7 p.m. Crews will also be closing the remaining ramps on and off the interstate for up to three hours for resurfacing work. All lanes and ramps on I-70 will reopen by 5 a.m. Saturday.
Work continues o the resurfacing of the I-55/64/70 Poplar Street Bridge. Two lanes will be closed in both directions of I-64 from Friday night until 4:00 AM Monday, September 23rd. After 12:01 AM Saturday, September 21st until 4 :00 AM Monday, September 23, the ramp from eastbound I-70 to the Poplar Street Bridge OR the ramp from northbound I-55 to the eastbound Poplar Street Bridge will be closed for short durations. Only one ramp will be closed at a time and will vary back & forth between the two ramps until 4 a.m. Monday.
Also, three center lanes of westbound I-70 will be closed form Mid Rivers Mall Drive to Route 79. These lane closures begin at 8:0 0PM Friday night through noon Sunday, September 22nd. The work zone will be in the middle of the highway, so only the far left & far right lanes will be open. For more details and continuous updates, visit traveler.modot.org.
