Tips To Fight Cabin Fever
Let me guess.. You’re at home, suffering from a little cabin fever because of the never ending snowstorm yesterday & the negative temps outside, waiting for the boredom to subside before you pull your hair out, right?
Well, maybe you’re not that bored or going that crazy but in case you are, no worries! Being snowed in can be fun!
For example, if you subscribe to Netflix, the movie world is your oyster. Less than a week ago, Netflix recently added a bunch of movies to their instant queue for a day like this.

Some oldies but goodies make the list. And if you had tickets to Sunday’s canceled performance of West Side Story at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, you can watch it from the comfort of your own couch! Kind of a win-win, right?
Not a Netflix subscriber? No worries. Why not try putting your baking skills to the test in the kitchen with a new recipe?
Just recently, I made these super easy and delicious Applesauce Oatmeal Muffins. Most of the ingredients you probably have already either in your pantry or in your fridge.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup rolled/old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup milk or soy milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 tablespoons butter or coconut oil, melted
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins, optional
Now how to make it:
First, preheat your oven to 375° and grease your muffin pan or cupcake liners. After that, start mixing together the oatmeal, applesauce, milk, egg, vanilla, butter and sugar. Set aside. In another bow whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, oatmeal, cinnamon, sugar and your dried fruit.
Then, slowly start combining the dry ingredients into the egg, applesauce, butter and milk. Mix, but don’t over mix. Over mixing this batter could make the muffins dense. The batter may look a little wetter compared to other muffin or cupcake mixes, but don’t fret. It’s fine!
Next step, distribute the mixture evenly into your muffin pan and bake for 15-20 minutes.
Cool and enjoy!
Simple right? If those muffins don’t seem like a possibility, get creative in the kitchen. Sort through your fridge to figure out what’s going out of date first and try to come up with a tasty meal around those ingredients.
Okay, now moving into a completely different direction, what about exercising? There are several ways to stay active even when you’re stuck inside. Still none of those sound appealing? What about reading? Nothing says snow day like curling up in blankets with a good cup of coffee and a great book on a cold winter day! And if you have a Nook or a Kindle Fire, then once again, the options are endless!
And if that’s not an option, maybe take a nap. How often do you get the chance to nap? Naps are great and can do wonders for your body!
