Guide To Cardinals Opening Day
Pep Rally At Kiener Plaza
500 Chestnut St.
St. Louis, MO 63101
Every year, fans from all over the St. Louis area gather to celebrate one of the greatest days in St. Louis sports. Opening day wouldn’t be quite the celebration it is without the traditional pep rally at Kiener Plaza. Folks dressed in Cardinals red begin filing into the area shortly after rush hour and celebrate right up until game time. Look for news crews, radio crews with music, food, drinks, interactive games and more to help along the festivities. Past opening days pep rallies have even seen Cardinals royalty and past players make an appearance. Whether you work downtown or just need an excuse to play hooky, make your way to Kiener Plaza to cheer on the Red Birds on opening day.
Mike Shannon’s Grill
620 Market St.
St. Louis, MO 63101
Cardinals baseball is a rich tradition in St. Louis and perhaps the reason the fans love the team so much is that strong sense of family within the organization. Once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal, fans and players alike. Mike Shannon is just one of the foundational legends of the Cardinals Nation. Born and raised in St. Louis, Shannon played for the Red Birds from 1962 to 1970, hitting key home runs in the 1964 and 1967 World Series games, with his last home run coming in Sportsman’s Park. Since 1971, he has been announcing Cardinals games and worked alongside legend Jack Buck during his illustrious career. In his spare time, he created a great place for fans to hang out before, after or during the game. Mike Shannon’s Grill is a great place to enjoy a frosty cold one or get a great meal after the game. It is open for lunch and dinner, and has a spectacular wine list. Just blocks from Busch Stadium, there is no reason not to stop in and make this restaurant/bar part of your opening day event.
