Authorities in De Soto are on the lookout for what one resident referred to as a “huge black bear” on the loose in the area.

The bear had been seen at the Walmart Supercenter on Highway 21 according to the Jefferson County Leader.

According to news reports, emergency crews have “stopped searching” for the bear” that reportedly had been spotted “numerous times.”

I don’t know about you, but if I’m in living in De Soto I’d prefer that they keep searching for it, thank you!

City officials were quoted as saying they hope to get the bear to leave town “without having to physically remove it.”

Really?

How would one go about convincing a large black bear to move along without incident?

We’re talking about a seasoned negotiator here.

Anyone who has spotted the bear is asked to call 636-931-7560 or email the Jefferson County Leader at nvrweakly@aol.com.

Sorry, but if I should happen upon a large black bear during my evening walk, sending an email wouldn’t be my first thought.

I’m thinking 9-1-1 would work as well.
