Happy Bastille Day folks! What exactly is Bastille day? It’s the French National Day, called La Fête Nationale in French — commemorating the day in 1789 when crowds stormed the Bastille, a fortress used as a prison in Paris. This event marks the beginning of the French Revolution.

But why should we be celebrating this day? Because we share commonalities with the French when it comes to celebrating Independence. They, too, fought against an oppressive system – at roughly the same time – in order to establish a new republic. Our Founding Father, Thomas Jefferson, was an ardent supporter of the French Revolution and even lent his Paris home to the revolutionaries. With Bastille Day marking the beginning of this journey towards French democracy, it stands as something we should all be celebrating! Plus, it gives us an excuse to eat delicious cakes and French foods, obviously.

Check out La Patisserie Chouquette for some of the tastiest macarons this fine city has to offer. With so many flavors to chose from, it’s hard to have a favorite at this Pastry Shop. But if you’re looking to treat your taste buds, definitely go with the Campfire S’more, Raspberry Rose Pink Peppercorn and the Salted Caramel. Can you really go wrong with that? Mmm, mmm!

And what could be more French that crepes? Whether you’re seeking sweet or savory, the City Coffeehouse & Creperie are serving some of the best crepes on this side of the Mississippi. We recommend the Brittany crepe — honey ham, fresh asparagus, havarti cheese, fresh spinach & hollandaise sauce — delicious!

If you’re seeking some delicious French inspired food, St. Louis is full of French cuisine. Our favorites? Vin de Set and Brasserie by Niche! Why are they our favorites? Well, Vin de Set gives you the very French, bistro feel and has impeccable crème brûlée. Seriously, some of the best in this town. And why Brasserie by Niche? For starters, their wine selection is phenomenal, and their country pâté is some of the best pâté you can find in the area.

We know there are tons of French inspired dishes being served here in St. Louis, so we want to hear from you on which ones are your favorites! Comment below & let us know.
