Avril Lavigne has come out to defend her “Hello Kitty” video, in the most Avril way ever.
Self-infantalization has always been a mainstay of Avril Lavigne’s personal brand, but as she starts creeping towards 30 she’s decided to take a page from Gwen Stefani’s book and insert herself in a culture that absolutely reveres that sort of thing: hello, Japan.

After over a decade in the music industry, Lavigne has returned to work with Reid for ‘Avril Lavigne’, a grab bag of sounds from her familiar pop-punk anthems (see “Rock N Roll”), to EDM club-ready tracks (see “Hello Kitty”), to songs co-written by her new husband and Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger (see literally every track on Avril Lavigne).
Avril Lavigne’s new self-titled release hits stores on November 5th, but you can stream the entire album right now on iTunes.
The “Complicated” singer and the Nickelback frontman, said their “I do’s” in front of 50 guests at Chateau La Napoule in the South of France on Monday (July 1).
Lavigne told MTV that Manson helped bring her out her naughty side on the song “Bad Girl, ” which will be on her untitled album, due out this September.
Avril Lavigne dropped the video for “Here’s To Never Growing Up” on Thursday (May 9), giving visuals to the raucous anthem.
